The Dutch Government has declared this Saturday, after an emergency meeting due to the advance of the omicron variant, a strict confinement in the Netherlands that comes into force this Sunday and continues until January 14, by which it closes all activity not essential, but also colleges and universities.

At a press conference in The Hague, the acting Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, explained that only essential shops, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations and minimal services will remain open, but everything else, including shops, restaurants, cinemas , theaters or gyms, must close their doors for almost a month.

In addition, the number of people from different households participating in out-of-home meetings is limited to two. In homes there can only be visits of up to two people with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas, when four visitors will be allowed. There are no exceptions for the end of the year.
