White House hits back over Biden’s age

Comments “inappropriate“that they hide”political motivations”. This is the conclusion of the White House after a special counsel released a report highlighting old age and “bad memory” of Joe Biden.

Vice President Kamala Harris led the counterattack this Friday, hours after Biden himself responded, angrily, to say that “his memory is good”. The problem is that in his responses to journalists he made another mistake when he called the Egyptian president Abdel Fatah al Sisi president of Mexico.

Special prosecutor Robert Hur’s investigation ruled out criminal charges against him for withholding classified documents but described him as a “well-intentioned old man with a bad memory.”

“The way the president’s behavior was characterized in that report could not be more factually flawed and clearly politically motivated.”Harris declared to reporters.

With these words, the vice president raises the tone and calls into question the motivations of the special prosecutor himself.

Hur was appointed by former Republican President Donald Trump as federal prosecutor for the District of Maryland in 2017 before being appointed by Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland as special prosecutor for the documents case.

Biden’s advanced age, 81, has become a central issue of the November presidential election campaign, much to his chagrin, and has directed the focus on Harris, who would succeed him in office if he resigned or became incapacitated.

In the polls, both Biden and Harris have low approval ratings in this campaign for another four years in the White House, which will possibly challenge Trump, 77, at the polls.

“Inappropriate”

The White House also protested this Friday through Ian Sams, the spokesman for the legal advisor’s office.

He stopped short of saying Hur was taking sides but suggested he felt under pressure to “go beyond your competition” due to political polarization.

“When the inevitable conclusion is that the facts and evidence do not support any accusation, one wonders why this report spends time making gratuitous and inappropriate criticism of the president”Ian Sams told reporters.

“When you’re the first special prosecutor in history to indict no one, there’s pressure to criticize“, he claimed.

Republicans have called on Biden to resign.

Trump, who faces criminal charges for withholding classified documents and then refusing to cooperate with investigators, has accused the Justice Department of applying double standards.

Sams also downplayed the idea that criticism of Biden’s age could hurt him in the election.

“I think public opinion is intelligent“, said.

There is a comment that especially hurt Biden.

“To suggest that she couldn’t remember when her son died is really off the mark,” Sams added.

“How the hell dare you?“said the president on Thursday, regarding the death of his son Beau, who died of cancer in 2015.
