The prosecutor Cesar Suarezin charge of investigating organized crime in the province of Guayas (Ecuador), one of the most violent in the country and the site of the assault on a television station by a group of hooded men, has been shot dead this Wednesday.
This has been confirmed by the Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office on its X (Twitter) account, where the State Attorney General, Diana Salazarhas transferred its “strength” and “commitment” to the fight against organized crime.
“We make a appeal to law enforcement to guarantee the safety of those of us in the performance of our duties,” he adds.
“Criminals, terrorists, will not stop our commitment with Ecuadorian society,” adds the attorney general. Her office was carrying out a preliminary investigation at the scene of the murder, expressing its pain for Suárez’s family but without giving more details about the crime.
Ecuador suffers a wave of violence which includes the assault on this television, the taking of hostages more than 200 prison officersexplosions in several cities and the kidnapping of police officers.
In response, the president Daniel Noboa declared a 60-day state of emergency, including a nighttime curfew, and designated 22 criminal groups as terrorist organizations.
