The former American president donald trump and pre-candidate for White House in 2024 he won the Iowa caucuses this Monday with 51% of the votes, almost 30 points more than the second, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis.
110,298 people participated in this Monday’s caucuses, a 41% less than in 2016, when a record was set with around 187,000.
Trump obtained 56,260 votes and a 51%while DeSantis added 23,420 votes and a 21.2%. The third was the former governor of South Carolina and former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, with 21,085 votes and one 19.1%.
Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who announced that he was withdrawing from the primaries after knowing the result, was fourth with 8,449 votes and a 7.7%. In the Iowa caucuses, only 40 delegates were distributed out of the 2,429 at stake in the entire Republican primary process.
Trump took 20, DeSantis 8, Haley 7 and Ramaswamy got 3 despite retiring. There are still two delegates to be assigned pending the final result.
