The development of technology 5G in Chile will contribute a growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of about US $ 15,000 million in a decade, said the president Sebastián Piñera.
Chile has been an enthusiastic promoter of the mobile network, which allows data transmission at a much higher speed, more stable and lower latency. In February, it held a spectrum auction for a total of 1,800 Mhz with which it achieved a historic collection of US $ 453 million for the deployment in the next two years.
“It is projected that thanks to this technology, almost US $ 15,000 million will be added to our Gross Domestic Product within ten years and it will also mean a huge boost to employment,” said the president in the official act of the deployment of the network in the country.
The president explained that in communications infrastructure an investment of US $ 3,000 million is estimated in four years for the construction of 9,000 radio stations necessary for the reach of 5G.
Piñera said that the plan contemplates a broad national deployment, which would reach 90% of the population, and will also include 366 isolated towns, about 200 hospitals, as well as public agencies.
“This is going to be a bit like vaccine policy, we are going to get there fast and we are going to reach everyone. Just as the vaccine protects the health and life of all, that 5G technology improves the quality of life of all ”, he commented.
The world’s largest copper producer has already worked on 5G pilots to drive autonomous mining trucks, as well as in the salmon industry.
