US CDC recommends prioritizing Pfizer and Moderna vaccines over Johnson & Johnson’s

New data indicates that a blood clotting syndrome is more common among people who recently received a J&J vaccine.

A committee of US medical experts that advises the government voted Tuesday in favor of recommending Pfizer and Moderna’s anticovid vaccines over Johnson & Johnson’s, given their lower protection and higher risks.

The vote was unanimous (15-0) supporting the recommendation. “I would not recommend a Janssen vaccine to members of my family,” Beth Bell, a clinical professor at the University of Washington, said of her vote, referring to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The CDC has recorded 54 U.S. cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome or TTS since the vaccine became available. Nine people died: seven women and two men.

ACIP members considered the new data and compared it with numerous studies showing that the J&J vaccine is less effective than the Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines in preventing infections.
