In its first 14 days, after its inauguration on December 26, the airline has carried out 220 flights, that is, an average of 16 daily, so it expects to carry out 112 weekly and 448 monthly, according to the military official at the conference. morning session of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“The response from users has been satisfactory, which is reflected in the 14,162 reservations that have been made on the official website mexican.gob.mx until June of this year,” said Ávila.

Mexicana de Aviación, the first airline in the country’s history, resumed operations on December 26 after its bankruptcy in 2010 and the rescue of López Obrador, who handed over its control to the Army.

The airline company, with an initial investment of 4,000 million pesos (almost US$ 238 million), started with three of its own Boeing 737-800 aircraft and two rented Embraer, with the promise of renting five more in the first two months of 2024 and the upcoming production of Boeing aircraft.

The deputy director of the airline explained that so far it has transported 7,829 passengers, in addition to having 7,284 reservations for this January.

The most popular destination has been the new Tulum Airport, inaugurated by the president on December 1, with 738 passengers so far, followed by Tijuana, with 421 travelers, and Mérida, with 344.

The new company flies to a total of 15 destinations for now: Tijuana, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Monterrey, Ciudad Victoria, Villahermosa, Campeche, Mérida, Chetumal, Tulum, Palenque, and Felipe Ángeles International Airport ( AIFA) of the Mexican capital.

The official announced that Uruapan, Ciudad Ixtepec and Nuevo Laredo are about to join.

The airline, which will prioritize flights to the airports that López Obrador has handed over to the Army, has promised tickets with an average cost of up to twenty% lower than the country’s other commercial airlines, Aeroméxico, Volaris and VivaAerobus.

“As their capacities increase, flight frequencies and the number of destinations will increase, with, above all, affordable rates and a social focus,” Avila commented.
