Colombia remains the Latin American country with the most registered residents in Spain.
The number of Colombians, Venezuelans, Ecuadorians, Hondurans and Peruvians, the Latin American countries with the most nationals registered in Spain, fell in the first half of 2021 compared to the second half of the previous year, according to official data published this Thursday.
The decrease in the number of foreigners is one of the causes of the decline in population in the country in this period for the first time since 2016, according to these data from the National Institute of Statistics of Spain.
Colombia remains the Latin American country with more registered residents in Spain, with 294,291 as of July 1, 2021, although with 3,391 less, a decrease of 1.1 percent compared to the same date of the previous year.
It is followed by Venezuela, with 207,583, 1,397 less, a fall of 0.7 percent, and Ecuador with 122,619, 4,248 less, a decrease of 3.3 percent, the highest of all the nationalities highlighted in this statistic.
Honduras appears with 122,220 residents, 929 less, a reduction of 0.8 percent, and Peru with 110,199, 1,843 less, a decrease of 1.6 percent.
These dates contrast with those of the first half of 2020, when the increase in foreigners, especially from several countries in America, helped maintain the population in Spain, compared to the second half of 2019.
Colombians and Venezuelans were those who grew the most within the foreign collective in Spain.
In the first half of this year, on the other hand, the vegetative balance was negative and migrants increased, with which the resident population in Spain decreased by 72,007 people and stood at 47,326,687 as of July 1.
The decrease corresponds to a negative natural balance of 70,736 people, with 157,184 births compared to 227,920 deaths, together with an almost zero migratory balance of 366 fewer people, with 201,638 immigrants arriving in Spain and 202,004 residents who emigrated.
The number of foreigners fell by 42,364 in the first semester, to 5,325,907, due to acquisitions of Spanish nationality, 68,282; the vegetative balance, 17,739; and emigration, 8,376, according to these data.
The population of Spanish nationality was reduced by 29,643 people, due to the negative vegetative balance, with 88,475 less, and the migratory balance also negative, with 8,742 less, which were not offset by the acquisitions of nationality, the institute highlights. (I)
