The homicide rate in Venezuela It stands at 5.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Remigio Ceballos, reported this Saturday, which makes the country, according to the official, one of the “safest in the world”.

At X (formerly Twitter), the sector vice president for the Citizen Security and Peace assured that this year there has been a decrease of 16.8% of the “index of criminality” compared to 2022, thanks to the “Politics of citizen security”, although he did not offer further details about it.

According to the Government, this month they have been evaluated and reviewed “comprehensive actions” to combat the delinquencyincluding the recent deployment of more than 155,000 agents during the holiday season.

A total of 179,273 officials are part of the different State security forces, of which 34% are women, according to official data.

On December 21, the president Nicolas Maduro assured that the country currently has the best safety indexes of the last 20 years, without specifying data on the number of homicides recorded so far this year or the crimes with the highest prevalence.

The head of state approved the purchase of drones “advanced observation technology” for the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), with the objective of “improve patrol work”.

According to the annual report of the NGO Venezuelan Observatory of Violence (OVV), presented on Thursday, there were 1,956 murders in the country, 15.9% less than in 2022 (2,328), and two thirds of the victims were aged between 15 and 44 years old.

With this total, the homicide rate is 7.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to calculations by this non-governmental organization.

Venezuela recorded peaks in violence in the last decade, when it reached a rate of 90 homicides for every 100,000 inhabitants or to count nearly 30,000 violent deaths in a year, a situation that began to improve in the last five years.
