The magnitude of the migration crisis in the southern border of the United States has resulted in the arrival of more than 2.2 million migrants so far this year, according to Customs and Border Protection.
According to said office, from January to November 2023, 2.2 million migrants arrived at the border, while for the same period in 2022 there were 2.3 million who showed up and 1.8 million in 2021.
Mexico, with more than 700,000 people who arrived at the US southern border, is the country with the largest number of migrants in official records, followed by Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia.

Migrant caravan in the middle of Christmas Eve

The US State Department announced in a statement its intention to search “measures” that allow the reopening of all border ports, since some of them have had to temporarily close due to the magnitude of the migration crisis.
On the eve of this visit by the American delegation, a caravan of more than 10,000 migrants left the border on Christmas Eve southern Mexico towards the United States to protest against the agreements between both countries to further contain the migratory flow.
The United States Customs and Border Protection also reported that in November it detained 242,000 migrants on the border with Mexico and detected a spike in migrant arrivals in the first days of December.
