Chile’s Institute of Public Health said Wednesday that it approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for the population of children from the age of five, to be included in its successful inoculation program.
The vaccine was already applied in the population of the South American country from the age of 12.
“Every time we have more vaccine alternatives. By unanimous decision of the group of experts, the extension of the age range of the Pfizer vaccine for children from 5 years of age has been approved”, The director of the ISP, Heriberto García, told reporters.
Chile has already completed vaccination in 13.92 million of its 19 million inhabitants, while 9.5 million already have a booster dose.
The rapid advance of the plan has reduced movement restrictions and expanded freedoms, while cases remain under control.
