Soybeans from Argentina grow in optimal humidity conditions after rain

91% of the soy 2023/24 sown in Argentina It is developing with optimal and adequate humidity conditions after the heavy rains reported in the last week, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BdeC) said on Thursday in its weekly crop report.

Argentina is one of the world’s two largest exporters of soybean oil and meal, and its farmers have planted the 69% of the 17.3 million hectares planned for the oilseed this season, according to the Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the implementation of Argentina’s 2023/24 corn progressed slowly in the last week due to excess water resulting from the strong storm that crossed the main agricultural areas of the country during the weekend.

“The Central-Northern zones of (the province of) Santa Fe, the North (Agricultural) Core, (the province of) Entre Ríos and (the) Center of (the province of) Buenos Aires continue with water excesses that delay the work”said the BdeC, which said that the 58.6% of the 7.1 million hectares estimated for cereal.

The storm was especially in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, where in the city of Bahía Blanca winds of up to 160 kilometers per hour caused the death of more than a dozen people.

Although the impact of the storm on wheat production was feared, the Stock Exchange explained that “preliminary analyzes report that the overturning (damage) of plants and damage due to broken spikes would be limited to the headers (outer edges) of the lots.”

In Argentina the wheat harvest is complete in a 65.2% and the estimated production for cereal is 14.7 million tons.
