Tunisia will analyze the increase in suicide attempts among minors, mainly girls

The Tunisian Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly, Amel Belhaj Moussa, today expressed her concern about the increase in attempts to suicide among minors, mainly girls, and announced the preparation of a study on this phenomenon “to scientifically and objectively identify the causes.”

During an event to mark the month of child protection collected by the official agency TAP, Belhaj Moussa warned of an increase in 33% in suicide attempts in 2022 -259 compared to 194 in 2021- and that girls represented a 80%.

Belhaj Moussa stated that “The Ministry of the Family will carry out a study on this phenomenon to scientifically and objectively identify the causes of suicide attempts among minors.”

“The total number of complaints of violence against children reached 8,135 in 2022, compared to 7,100 in 2021″the owner detailed at the meeting about the statistics collected by the State.

“Physical violence against children represented the 29% of all the violence, compared to the twenty% against girlsaccording to the data that the minister showed about the situation of children in the Maghreb country.

Furthermore, he pointed out that “In 2022, 848 cases of birth outside of marriage were recorded, compared to 802 in 2021.”

Child protection delegates dealt with 109 cases of child drug users. drugs and received 758 requests for mediation”most of them due to situations of theft, violence and damage caused to others, Belhaj Mousa explained.
