Javier Milei deregulates the economy by decree and sends a reform package to Congress

The ultraliberal Argentine president, Javier Mileiordered on Wednesday the elimination by decree of hundreds of regulations to deregulate the economy, opening the door to the privatization of public companies, and announced a package of reforms that represent a complete turnaround in a country accustomed to strong State interventionism.

“The objective is to begin the path of reconstruction of our country, return freedom and autonomy to individuals and begin to dismantle the enormous amount of regulations that have prevented, hindered, and stopped economic growth in our country”said the president in a message recorded and broadcast on national radio and television, after the first demonstration in the streets against his adjustment program.

Milei was escorted by all ministers.

The Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) to deregulate the economy, which among other points repeals the rental law and the supply law, also enables the privatization of public companies and deregulates the satellite internet service and private medicine.

It will come into effect on Thursday when it is published in the Official Gazette. In addition, the legislative reforms will be debated in Congress in the coming weeks within the framework of the extraordinary sessions called by the Executive Branch.
