Austria, Bulgaria and Poland are the only countries from across the European Union that have not submitted an update of their National Energy and Climate Plans to Brussels. The deadline expired in July.
In their plans, each EU country is to show how it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. In total, the entire Community has set itself the goal of reducing emissions by 55%. and individual countries must present plans that will collectively allow them to meet the goal. For now, there is still some missing. According to calculations by the European Commission, the current plans – if implemented – will mean a 51% reduction in emissions. That’s why the Commission wants to see the final, more ambitious version of the plans by mid-2024.
Three countries – including Poland – did not show any update of their plans
First of all, she called on three countries – including Poland – that did not show any update to do so as soon as possible. Our plan is still the one from 2019, i.e. before the EU Fit for 55 package and the energy crisis that influenced the transformation plans.
Preparing an update of the plan and submitting it to Brussels will be one of the priorities for the new management of the Ministry of Climate and Environment. After taking office, Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska announced that she wanted to soon update internal documents, such as the Energy Policy until 2040 and the creation of a strategy for achieving climate neutrality.
