A total of 10,327 people, 8,000 of them Spanish citizens from the world of culture, journalism and thought, have signed the third publication of the manifesto against the war in the Middle East that condemns the genocide of Israel and the terrorism of Hamas to urge an “immediate and indefinite” ceasefire. . This Sunday, around twenty of the more than 10,000 signatories presented to the media at the Ateneo de Madrid the third publication in the newspaper El País of this manifesto, titled ‘We must stop the war. Neither terrorism, nor genocide.’

The text, which has the support of citizens of 31 other countries, was first published on October 29 and for the second time on November 19. In each of the editions, new signatories have been incorporated, among them an important part of prominent professionals of Spanish culture and journalism professionals. Although it has not changed with respect to its previous publications, the manifesto takes as its starting point the “firm” condemnation of the genocide that Israel is committing and the terrorism of Hamas to demand a ceasefire.

“Only from this starting point can peace be defended and a peace agreement possible”said Nuria Suárez, spokesperson for Cuts Zero, the social movement that promotes the manifesto that demands Israel stop the bombings, comply with international law and enable a humanitarian corridor, while urging Hamas to stop “its attacks.” terrorists and the unconditional release of the hostages.

This is how some of those attending the event read it, such as the musician Toni Zenet, the journalist Fran Sevilla, the actress Vicky Peña, the theologian Juan José Tamayo or the former deputy mayor of Madrid Marta Higueras. In this edition, the signatories maintain that the situation is increasingly dramatic and the demands of the manifesto increasingly urgent, since the war It has already caused 20,000 deaths and more than two million displaced people.

For the journalist Fran Sevilla there will be no peace “until we go to the origin of the conflict, which It is none other than the occupation of Palestine“, while the unionist Antonio Gutiérrez has gone further by considering that the current situation is not “one of symmetry”, since there is only one genocide now, the one perpetrated by Israel.”

However, the text proposes a ceasefire, UN mediation, an agreement based on the existence of the two States and the implementation of the proposition approved by Congress in 2014, which urges the “Government to recognize to Palestine as a State”.
