Germany ends subsidy for the purchase of electric cars

The government of Germany announced today that it will end early on Monday a subsidy for the purchase of electric carafter the ruling of the Constitutional Court that declared void the transfer of billions of euros linked to the pandemic to a fund to finance the transformation of the economy.

”In the framework of the negotiations on the Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF), it was decided on December 13 to end support through the environmental bonus“said in a statement the Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection.

The grant, by which buyers of an electric car could save up to 6,000 euros, will end on Monday instead of next year, he explained.

The early end of this measure is due to the recent ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, which in November declared null and void the transfer of 60 billion euros from a fund created as a result of the pandemic to the KTF, exposing a multi-million dollar hole in the budget. of the German State.

The coalition of social democrats, greens and liberals announced on the 13th an agreement to close this hole, but to do so it will have to make cuts in several items assigned for 2014, including in some subsidies for the fight against climate change.

”The plan for the KT must be redrafted and has fewer resources available,” the ministry led by Green Robert Habeck stressed in the statement.

According to its portfolio, since 2016, a total of around 10 billion euros have been paid as part of the environmental bonus for about 2.1 million electric vehicles.

”The financing program was very successful and made considerable progress in electromobility in Germanyassured the ministry.
