Austria recommends the third dose of the vaccine from the age of twelve

The Austrian Government announced today that the use of the booster dose against COVID-19 will also be recommended for those over twelve years of age, while tomorrow the special doses of Biontech / Pfizer will be used for children from five .

The Minister of Health, the environmentalist Wolfgang Mückstein, explained at a press conference that the commission of experts that advises the Government on vaccines will reduce the age from 18 to 12 from which it is recommended to use the third vaccine.

Currently, only in the city of Vienna the booster dose is given to people over 16 years of age.

The minister today asked the population to go to receive the third dose before the Christmas holidays.

Although Austria is one of the Western European countries with the lowest percentage of the population with the complete vaccination schedule, only 68%, the distribution of the third dose has already reached 32% of the population.

Austria authorized the vaccination of those over five years of age with BioNTech / Pfizer at the end of November. To date, 15% of children between the ages of 5 and 11, about 85,000, have already received at least one dose.

In total, 9% of those under 15 years of age are already fully immunized and 17% have received at least one dose.

Tomorrow the first vials of the Biontech / Pfizer product with a reduced dose adapted to children will begin to be used, of which Austria will receive about 285,000 units until the end of the year.
