The two months of horror who have lived in Gaza would only be the middle of the war: the Israeli offensive would have left many more with the current intensity. These are the calculations of the Hebrew Minister of Defense himself, two more months of military pressure maintained —or increased— and many more of “cleaning“(sic) with two declared objectives and one hidden.
Those declared: eliminate Hamas and obtain the release of more than 100 hostages that they have in their hands. The underground one—not so much anymore—, is to directly control the Strip. To Prime Minister Netanyahu already it’s not worth it —if it has ever been worth it— an international force. Much less, that they are the moderate palestinians of Mahmoud Abbas who govern the entire Strip (the power of the Palestinian National Authority is now largely limited to the West Bank). Something that, according to Sky News Arabiahe would be willing to do—when until now he had publicly rejected it—.
Towards a permanent Israeli reoccupation
“Netanyahu is very clear: under no circumstances does he want the Palestinian National Authority to govern; wants to control her and he wants to control her“explains Ruth Ferrero, professor of Political Science and International Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid, who in ‘Al Rojo Vivo’ agrees with other analysts, such as Ignacio Cembrero, that “we are going to a permanent reoccupatione of the territory of Gaza”.
With this panorama, Gaza under the yoke of a extreme siege —almost no supplies, no food, no drinking water, only two hospitals lending first aid only throughout the north—the Government of Israel faces a growing opposition internal and external. “It is no longer just Pedro Sánchez: it is António Guterres, it is Kamala Harris, it is Biden himself who is modulating his support…”, points out Ferrero.
Ignacio Cembrero, on the Israel-Hamas war: “I get images from Gaza every day that I can’t even finish seeing” |
Redoubled international pressure
This entire panorama is surrounded by redoubles diplomatic offensives. He G7led by the United States, Israel’s traditional largest ally, is pushing for a armistice. The United Nations could vote this Friday on a resolution asking that it be immediate, sponsored by the Arab countries in this case.
Its Secretary General, António Guterres, has in fact invoked the exceptional article 99 to “draw attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the threat what it means for the peace and security in the world“. Although, of course, according to Israel this—ask for a Stop the fire– is a moral turpitude” (which is what the Israeli Ambassador to the UN has said on social media).
