Splitting Morawiecki with Ziobro. In the background, electricity prices. “Pay rises may kill us politically”

Zbigniew Ziobro is to insist that Poland has withdrawn from the CO2 emission allowance trading system. However, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is to be skeptical of this attempt to impose a climate policy on the European Union, he claims.

“Raises Could Kill Us Politically”

Companies that produce large amounts of carbon dioxide – such as power plants – have to pay for every ton of gas they emit. The problem of the Polish energy sector that is almost entirely dependent on coal is the sharp increase in the prices of allowances. Today they reach EUR 90 per ton, which is roughly a triple increase in the year.

PiS politicians realize that further increases in electricity prices cannot be avoided. – Increases in energy prices can kill us politically – says one of them in an interview with the portal.

Central European countries will propose a reform of the CO2 emissions trading system

The government can and is aware that Germany’s new government, made up of pro-environmental parties, to torpedo the program, will not agree to hitting the mechanism that cuts greenhouse gas emissions. Poland, together with other European partners, will try to influence the EU policy. This was confirmed by Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński

The representative of the ministry announced that the countries of Central Europe will propose a reform of the CO2 emissions trading system. This position was agreed on Monday at the summit of the Visegrad Group countries attended by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Deputy Minister: We brought the price crisis onto ourselves

On Channel 1 of Polish Radio, Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński emphasized that speculation on the ETS market is one of the main reasons for the increase in energy prices. The speculative mechanism in this market has caused the prices of emission certificates to increase by almost 1,000 percent in the last two years.

– We are in a situation where we, in fact – ourselves in the sense of the European Union – brought about a price crisis when it comes to energy. And this powerful inflation results to a large extent from this – explained Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński.

During Monday’s V4 summit with the French president, apart from the issue of CO2 emissions trading, the topics of migration, the rule of law and the European aspirations of the Western Balkans were also discussed.
