Jose Manuel Albares Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperationwho have revalidated the position again in this new government of Pedro Sánchez, defended this Monday that The international community cannot “waste any more time” and should support the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel to guarantee peace and security throughout the region.
In this way, the minister spoke at the start of the VIII Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelonaa meeting that will have a record presence of 27 ministers from the 43 countries that make up this organization, which is precisely celebrating its fifteenth anniversary.
“The UfM cannot remain oblivious to the tragedy that is being experienced in Gaza and the Middle East,” said Albares, betting that this meeting will serve as a “call to action” and to mobilize for peace, a peace that “it must be definitive, we must never again see so many innocent civilians killed.”
“Today we must unite our voices to urge everyone, the international community, not to waste any more time for the establishment of a Palestinian State alongside Israel which, with the support and guarantee of the entire international community, will contribute decisively to guaranteeing the peace and security throughout the region,” he stressed.
Similarly, Albares has defended thatThe Palestinian Authority must be the one to assume control of the Gaza Strip once hostilities cease since it is “our partner for peace.” For this “effective return” to be possible, since the PA has not controlled the Strip since 2007, Albares has stressed that international support is necessary and the best way to provide it is through the “materialization once and for all” of the two-state solution. “Our diplomacy must speak today to silence our weapons, a message of hope and a clear message of peace must come out of Barcelona,” the Foreign Minister remarked.
