Economist Demian Reidel confirms that he will not be head of the Argentine Central Bank

The Argentine physicist, mathematician and economist Demian Reidel confirmed that he will not be president of the Central Bank of Argentinaa position that had been offered to him by the elected president of the country, Javier Milei.

“To avoid speculation, I want to confirm that at this moment I will not be president of the Central Bank,” the expert announced this Saturday night.

Reidel, who served as vice president of the Central Bank during the Government of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), assured that the president-elect has his “absolute support” and what will be “an honor and a pleasure to continue collaborating with the construction of the new Argentina.”

Local media assured that Reidel’s decision is due to differences in criteria with Luis Caputo, former Minister of Finance of the Macri Government and designated as the future Minister of Economy, once Milei assumes the Argentine Presidency, on December 10.

“There is an issue of differences in the design of ‘policy’ and there are people who can do it better”Reidel said in statements published this Sunday by the newspaper La Nación.

Milei had initially offered the Presidency of the Central Bank to economist Emilio Ocampo, who days ago rejected the position after rumors began to circulate that Caputo would command the Ministry of Economy.

The differences seem to center on the dollarization plan and closure of the Central Bank promised by Milei during the campaign and that Caputo would not be willing to execute in the times and ways originally designed by libertarian economists.
