The ‘Sunday Mirror’ newspaper has published an image of the British Prime Minister in which he apparently celebrates a Christmas party ignoring preventive measures.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has reiterated this Monday that “he did not break any rule” imposed by the covid-19 pandemic in the 2020 christmas parties, when a confinement ruled. The British Government continues to be involved in the controversy over the meetings they held on those dates without respecting the restrictions.
This latest episode of criticism of Johnson has begun with the publication in the Sunday Mirror image of him from last Christmas in Downing Street in which apparently celebrated a Christmas event bypassing social distancing measures and when indoor gatherings were not allowed in London.
Seated under a portrait of Margaret Thatcher, the prime minister would have held a video call – a question and answer contest, according to the Minister of Education, Nadhim Zahaw – in which several groups of employees participated, including people who accompanied Johnson in the same Downing Street room, without maintaining social distance, at a time when meetings were forbidden, except between partners.
In this sense, Johnson has stressed that he did not behave inappropriately but has guaranteed that the event will be investigated. “I can tell you once again that I certainly did not break the rules. And this is being investigated,” said the ‘premier’ this Monday, according to the BBC.
Previously, the Minister of Education came out in defense of Johnson by ensuring that this contest had been held “virtually” and that everyone in the room with Johnson were his employees. “He held the contest to thank them for their work,” he said.
The British Government has been under pressure for days due to the Christmas holidays, which have even cost an adviser her position, after the leak of a fake press conference in which he acknowledges and even jokes about holding a party in December 2020, against the criteria then set to contain the covid-19 pandemic.
