Ukraine demands that the border with Poland be unblocked. The European Commission receives complaints

Ukraine sent an official note to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding the immediate unblocking of the Polish border for goods traffic. Kiev is also complaining to Brussels about the ongoing blockade, reports RMF FM.

The authorities, in an official note to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demand the immediate unblocking of freight traffic on the Polish route, explaining that the blockade poses a threat to the life and health of people waiting in line, it says. The station also found that two rounds of talks with the European Commission took place this week, but both ended in failure.

Blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border. Ukraine complains in Brussels

The commission told RMF FM that “protesters claim that they are not blocking the flow of humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people,” but “the blockades have a negative impact on the speed of delivery of humanitarian aid.” According to an EC spokesman, there have been reports “of cases in which humanitarian aid and even dangerous goods have been blocked.”

On Wednesday, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in a resolution addressed to the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland of the new term, said that the border blockade harms military supplies for the front. In turn, one of the EU officials pointed out that the Polish government was to authorize the protest provided that humanitarian and military deliveries could continue, the station reports. It also said Ukrainian authorities had announced “several improvements to the system that should address protesters’ concerns in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.”

Death of a Ukrainian driver. Podkarpacka Police explains

Polish carriers have been blocking the border crossings with Ukraine for over two weeks – in Dorohusk, Hrebenne and Korczowa. They demand, among other things: introducing commercial permits for Ukrainian companies to transport goods, with the exception of humanitarian aid and supplies for the Ukrainian army, suspending licenses for companies that were established after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and conducting their inspections. There was also a demand to eliminate the so-called electronic queue on the Ukrainian side. Polish carriers have problems with registration in this system.

. “This morning we received information that a driver died at night in a parking lot in Korczowa. Most likely, the causes were natural, but one way or another, the stress they faced played a role. [kierowcy – przyp. red.] they are experiencing due to the strike and uncertainty as to when they will be able to enter Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Balin, a representative of the Ukrainian Association of International Carriers, quoted by the portal.

The Podkarpacka Police assures that the death of the Ukrainian driver is not related to the ongoing blockade. “Reports about the death of a driver waiting in line at the border in Korczowa are untrue! The body of a 56-year-old Ukrainian citizen was discovered in the Łańcut district in the town of Kosina, 70 km away from the border. The driver’s death is not related to the ongoing protest,” we read.

This is the second such case on the border of Poland and Ukraine. Almost two weeks ago, a Ukrainian driver died in a parking lot in Chełm in the Lublin Voivodeship. The 54-year-old was waiting for the opportunity to leave Poland. The man wanted to cross the Dorohusk-Jagodzin border crossing, which is blocked by Polish carriers.
