The striking Hollywood actors presented a broad counteroffer to the major studios, the interpreters’ union SAG-AFTRA reported in a publication on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
Negotiators from the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the group that represents Walt Disney, Netflix and other major media companies, are scheduled to meet again on Friday, the actors’ union said.
Ahead of Friday’s talks, a group of SAG-AFTRA members released an open letter to union leadership, urging the negotiating committee to keep fighting for improved compensation, copyrights and workplace protections.
“We haven’t come all this way to give in now”, wrote the group calling itself Solidarity Members. “We haven’t been out of work, out of pay, and on picket lines for months just to give up everything we’ve been fighting for.“added the note.
The latest counteroffer presented by the actors union on Thursday comes after the companies and the union representing striking American actors returned to the negotiating table on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, negotiations between the Hollywood studios and SAG-AFTRA were suspended as the two sides clashed over streaming revenue, the use of artificial intelligence and other issues amid a three-month work stoppage.
Members of SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 actors and other media professionals, have been on strike since July. The measure has altered next year’s film schedule and delayed the return of top-rated comedies and television series.
It has also created difficulties for team members, who have not worked for months.
