The Argentine electoral justice came out this Sunday to the complaints of alleged massive irregularities on voting day coming from those around the presidential candidate of La Libertad Avanza (LLA), Javier Milei.
“The National Electoral Chamber informs citizens that irregularities, offenses or crimes that occur during election day must be reported through the established legal channels. This is, in person, before the polling station authorities, electoral delegates, federal electoral courts and federal electoral prosecutors’ offices.reads the statement issued this Sunday.
The electoral authorities recommended that citizens who were aware of any irregularity report it on the portal provided by the National Electoral Justice.
“All complaints require – as a matter of necessity – the identification of the person who presents it (the one that is anonymous is not valid), so the alternative routes provided by political groups, candidates or individuals, which do not validate the identity of the person “The complaint formulated has no legal validity and could hinder the prevention, resolution and sanction of the denounced maneuver.”the statement stressed.
The statement from the electoral authority was released after the electoral command of presidential candidate Javier Milei opened a website “ad hoc” so that the voters could carry out “anonymous complaints” about irregularities in voting centers throughout the country. Within a few minutes she began to receive a flood of messages.
Furthermore, on Javier Milei’s official website a “banner” with the legend “reception of complaints for the 2023 elections”, along with a photo of the Libertad Avanza presidential candidate and a form to report missing ballots, false prosecutors and “other reasons.” This generated the reaction of the electoral Justice.
Shortly after the polling stations opened their doors at 8:00 a.m. (11:00 GMT), the candidate for head of government of the City of Buenos Aires for Milei’s party, Ramiro Marra, published a message online social X (formerly Twitter) in which he advised: “If you saw any irregularity or damage done to the @LLibertadAvanza ballots, please comment here with your polling place. “It hasn’t even been 4 hours of voting and they are already filling us with messages denouncing irregularities.”.
The environment of the far-right candidate had already hinted after the primary elections held on August 13, the possibility of a possible challenge. “It is not the idea, but we do not rule out anything. In the PASO (mandatory simultaneous open primary elections) we lost five points due to oversight”they said.
Later, after the closing of the voting stations at 6:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. GMT), La Libertad Avanza spokesperson Guillermo Francos told the press that they had received 4,500 complaints about irregularities and broken ballots.
Milei’s advisor, eventual Minister of the Interior in a hypothetical Javier Milei Government, made this statement based on the testimony of his electoral prosecutors, the representatives appointed by the political groups participating in the elections.
