Pact between Venezuelan Government and opposition lacks certainty, according to anti-Chavista

The anti-Chavist Maria Corina Machado said this Wednesday that the agreement to promote political rights and electoral guarantees signed on Tuesday by the Government of Venezuela and the opposition “does not provide certainty”since it does not require “specific actions and deadlines that clear the route” towards the 2024 presidential elections.

In a statement, Machado disassociated himself from the negotiations that the opposition grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) is holding with the Executive of Nicolás Maduro, and assured that he is unaware of the “precise range” of the agreement signed on Tuesday in Barbados.

“In the past, the Maduro regime has signed agreements that it repeatedly violates. What is relevant now is not that a new document is signed, but that its strict compliance extends to all those aspects contemplated by the Constitution and that genuinely benefit Venezuelans.”, he stressed.

The leader of Vente Venezuela assured that “the route of change” It will be drawn through the opposition primaries on October 22, in which she will face nine other candidates, from whom the unitary candidate will emerge who will face Chavismo in next year’s presidential elections.

Machado has an administrative disqualification that does not prevent her from running in the primaries, as it is an internal matter of the opposition, but she would be blocked from registering with the electoral body as a presidential candidate, since the measure prevents them from holding public positions of popular election.

The opposition delegation in the dialogue indicated this Tuesday that the signed document constitutes “a route” so that disqualified candidates “recover your rights quickly” and the administrative measures that weigh on them are lifted, something that the Government representation denied, recalling that the agreement does not contemplate the lifting of disqualifications.
