Red Cross volunteers refuse to evacuate and leave behind the weakest in Gaza

Volunteers from the Palestinian Red Crescent, the relief society’s equivalent Red Cross in the Muslim world, have refused to evacuate the north of Loopfollowing Israel’s order that 1.1 million civilians must move to the south, a move that United Nations has judged impossible.

”Our volunteers refuse to leave and abandon those who need them most,” said today the heads of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Robert Mardini, and the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), Jagan Chapagain.

In a joint statement, both called for the protection of first responders so that they can continue to fulfill their mission of protecting the injured and the most vulnerable.

Likewise, they pointed out that the tragedy that occurred in Israel on the 7th as a result of the attack from Gaza by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas cannot be justified from any point of view, but that this cannot justify “the unlimited destruction of Gaza” either. which has been taking place since then.

They added that in international humanitarian law, which is the law that prevails in armed conflicts, “there is no hierarchy in pain and suffering” and that they are norms that exist “to help preserve humanity in the darkest moments, and today they must be desperately fulfilled.”

Both the Palestine Red Crescentlike the Israeli relief society Magen David Adom, have suffered casualties among their volunteers, which they considered a “tragic reminder of the dangers humanitarian and medical workers face.”
