Borrell, who chaired an extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers in Muscat (Oman), also indicated that a “vast majority” of the bloc’s 27 countries oppose a suspension of aid payments to the Palestinians. .

“There was a vast majority, with perhaps two or three exceptions, of countries that clearly signaled that cooperation with the Palestinian Authority must continue. And that the funds must continue. And that payments will not be interrupted”he claimed.

The European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Olivér Varhelyi, had announced on Monday on the X network the immediate suspension of development aid payments to the Palestinians.

But given the rejection of that notion in various capitals of the bloc, the European Commission – the executive arm of the EU – announced a review of the “financial help”without suspension of payments.
