Several airlines cancel or rearrange their flights to Israel after Hamas attacks

Airlines from all over the world this Monday announced cancellations or have reorganized their flights to or from Israel due to the worsening of the conflict in the country after the attacks by the Islamist group Hamas.

British Airways, of the IAG group to which Iberia also belongs, has adjusted its programming and schedules.

The company assured that it continues “very close” the situation in Israel and has introduced a flexible reservation policy for customers who want to modify their reservations, while in the coming days it will operate with “adjusted departure times”.

For its part, the Lufthansa airline group, which also includes companies such as Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, will suspend its flights to Israel until Saturday, October 14.

While the Portuguese airline TAP also decided this Monday to suspend all its flights to and from Tel Aviv airport without a resumption date.

In a brief notice published on its website, TAP reported that passengers with flights booked until the end of October will be able to delay them at no additional cost or request a refund of their ticket.

In the case of the airlines Wizz Air and Virgin Atlantic, both have canceled their flights to Tel Aviv this Monday.

In Spain, Air Europa resumed its operations with Israel this Monday – where it flies daily except on Saturdays – after the cancellation on Sunday of its service between Madrid and Tel Aviv, while Iberia Express has reduced its flights from two daily frequencies to one. .

Iberia Express canceled its flights on Saturday, but resumed them on Sunday, operating only one, while the second frequency was rescheduled for this Monday, and starting Tuesday it will only offer one daily service between Madrid and Tel Aviv.

Both companies have indicated to EFE that they will continually evaluate the situation, always prioritizing the safety of the passengers and the crew.

The Spanish airline Vueling, which offers a daily flight to Israel, is studying the situation and has not yet decided whether it will operate tonight’s flight, departing at 11:00 p.m. from Barcelona (northeast), and the 5:00 a.m. flight from Tel Aviv bound for this Spanish city.

This airline canceled this service on Saturday after the attacks and sent an empty plane on Sunday to pick up both passengers who could not travel the day before and those who, having their tickets for the next few days, wanted to advance the trip to Spain, as well like the crew that spent the night in Israel.

For its part, the Egyptian airline Egyptair announced this Monday the suspension of its daily flight to Tel Aviv indefinitely, according to a brief statement from the company.

In the case of the Americans, American Airlines announced on Sunday that it will continue “monitoring” the situation to make the necessary adjustments after having suspended its flights for the weekend.

The American company Delta also canceled its flights to and from Tel Aviv over the weekend and assured on Sunday that it is working to transport back its workers and Americans who wish to return.

On Monday, the airline sector was one of the hardest hit on the stock market, IAG (which groups Iberia and British Airways, among other brands) fell 5.7% on the Spanish stock market, while in Frankfurt, on the MDAX index, the Lufthansa airline group lost 4.3%.

Furthermore, the Air France-KLM group lost the 8.48% on the Paris stock exchange, and of the American ones, United Airlines now loses the 4.95%; Delta the 4.41% and American Airlines, the 5.13%.
