The designated president of the Climate Summit COP28 and Emirati Minister of Industry, Sultan al Jaber, stated today that his main objective during the climate convention, which will be held from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, is to unite the world’s efforts to prevent the global warming exceed 1.5 °C from 2030.
”Our main objective in hosting the COP28 is to preserve the possibility of prevent the global warming exceeds the level of 1.5 °C”Al Yaber said this Saturday at the closing ceremony of the Future Climate Week in Dubai.
Al Yaber thus showed its commitment to comply with the 2015 Paris Agreementwith which countries committed to limit the average increase in global temperature to no more than 1.5 ° C above pre-industrial levels.
To stop the rise in temperatures, the president of COP28 listed the four pillars of his action plan: accelerate an orderly, responsible and fair transition of the energy sector, develop climate financing mechanisms, improve lives and livelihoods of the people and address these points at the summit.
“Now we must take advantage of the opportunity that the COP28 to unite the world’s efforts with the aim of providing implementable and effective solutions to reduce the repercussions of climate change,” he noted.
Likewise, he showed his interest in guaranteeing the participation of all segments of society and educating citizens about the dangers of climate change and the importance of climate action, in addition to “encouraging them to support efforts to reduce emissions and build a sustainable future for all.”
Al Yaber is also president of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and for this reason it has been the target of criticism by dozens of climate and human rights activist groups.
The Emirates, one of the main crude oil producers and a prominent member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), is also one of the most advanced Gulf States in investing in renewable energy.
