The vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandezindicated this Saturday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) “imposes inconsistent plans for the well-being” of his country, while defending the attitude of the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, of “having told society the truth” about the organization.
Fernandez made these statements at an event held at the Metropolitan University for Education and Work (UMET), in Buenos Airesunder the motto “Of castes, inheritances, collapses and future”, organized by the Justicialista School named after her late husband and former president Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007).
The former president (2007-2015) once again attacked the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with which Argentina agreed to a program in 2022 to undertake the payment of a debt of 45,000 million dollars contracted in 2018, during the Government of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019).
“He IMF makes inconsistent plans for the well-being of Argentinabut perhaps they will be very consistent to, tomorrow, take over all the natural resources,” he indicated.
According to the vice president, the presence of IMF as “auditor” of the Argentine economy “prevents the ability to develop policies that benefit the whole.”
Fernández justified the pressure from IMF the devaluation of the peso against the dollar carried out by the Executive of 22% on August 14, a day after the primary elections that gave the libertarian Javier Milei as the most voted candidate, and took the opportunity to “recognize” Massa, the official candidate, for “having told the truth” to the population.
”I want to recognize something very important to the Minister of Economy, which is having told the truth to society about the IMF“, commented the former president, who revealed a telephone discussion she had with the president, Alberto Fernandezin which, according to her version, she defended that one should not “say that (the agreement) is wonderful,” but rather confess “that they force you to sign.”
“Every Argentine man and woman should know that the prices that increased due to the devaluation (of the Executive) are imposed by the IMF“, he pointed.
The event, exclusive for 400 guests and without access to the press, although broadcast on social networks, was held on the occasion of the reissue, 20 years after its publication, of the book “After the collapse. Conversations by Torcuato Di Tella and Néstor Kirchner.”
Claimed by a part of the militancy of the ruling Peronism, Fernandez He has not actively participated in the electoral campaign for the October 22 elections and was absent from the spotlight since last July 17, when he participated in an event with Massa.
