Evo Morales questions lack of Bolivian ambassadors in the countries of the BRICS group

The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) criticized this Sunday that the Government of Luis Arce has not so far appointed ambassadors for Brazil, Russia, India and Chinawhich, in his opinion, will make it difficult for the South American country to enter the group of emerging economies BRICS.

“How can we want to enter the BRICS if we do not have ambassadors in China, Russia or India? “They are the three largest countries,” Morales questioned in a program on the coca radio station Kawsachun Coca.

The also president of the government Movement towards Socialism (MAS) highlighted that China, Russia and Brazil “They are strategic allies of Bolivia”.

In his opinion, at this time Bolivia could “to be advancing at an accelerated pace with Brazil on the issue of agriculture and integration” and with China in investments, but the lack of ambassadors does not allow it.

The former president considered a “contempt” to the BRICS for not having designated ambassadors for those countries and that “it’s a disappointment” that in the almost three years that Arce has been in the Government this has not happened.

For Morales, “someone is harming the State, not just the Government,” from the Bolivian Foreign Ministry.

“The Foreign Ministry first has to cover important embassies with strategic countries”he insisted and recalled that during his Government there had “plans” to open a Bolivian embassy in South Africa.

The politician highlighted the importance of the BRICS which, in his opinion, can lead to a “rebellion against unilateralism” since it’s over “interventionism”.

Last August, President Arce participated in the BRICS summit held in Johannesburg, where he ratified his country’s interest in joining the group.

Bolivia is also seeking to be part of the New Development Bank (NBD) established by the BRICS in 2015 to finance infrastructure projects.

Since the end of 2021, Morales has been a strong critic of the management of the Arce Government with complaints of corruption and the request that several ministers be dismissed, which the Executive has so far ignored.

This internal division between followers of Morales, of a radical line, and of Arce, considered “renewers“, began in Parliament and recently moved to the different union and social organizations related to the ruling party, which has even led to strong confrontations on both sides.
