WHO chief asks China for “full access” to determine the origin of COVID

The boss of the World Health Organization urged Beijing to provide more information on the origins of the COVID-19 and is willing to send a second team to investigate the matter, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

“We are putting pressure on China “to give full access to information and we ask the countries to raise it in their bilateral meetings, to urge Beijing to cooperate,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the WHO, told the newspaper.

The WHO chief’s comments come as health authorities and pharmaceutical companies around the world rush to update guidelines. vaccines to combat new variants of the coronavirus.

Ghebreyesus has long pressured China to share its information on the origins of the COVID-19stating that until that happens all hypotheses will remain on the table.

The virus was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, and many suspect it spread at a live animal market before spreading around the world and killing nearly seven million people.
