In Asni (Morocco), there are between 50 and 60 tents in which entire families affected by the earthquakes that occurred a week ago live. The resources there are scarce, without enough food and hardly any waterusing what little there is to wash his clothes.
“We have been here almost 10 days and We don’t have bathrooms or showers.“laments Mohamed, who is wearing the same clothes he was wearing on the day of the earthquake. From there, they ask for help so that their nightmare ends once and for all and the children can be children again.
Meanwhile, helicopters depart daily from the Marrakech air base to carry groceries to the inhabitants of the most inaccessible corners of the high Atlas hit by the earthquake. It is a risky task, among mountain valleys more than 2,000 meters high, where demolished houses are scattered and it is difficult to find a flat area to land.
Tents have been distributed to the 28 (of 40) municipalities in the province affected by the earthquake. Total, They provide shelter to about 100,000 people from Al Haouz, who now live under plastic roofs, awaiting the reconstruction of their houses. Upon hearing the sound of the helicopters, the villagers, like tiny colored dots, wave and indicate a place at the bottom of the valley, but the narrowness and the wind prevent landing and they move the device from side to side.
For his part, the imam of the Asni mosque, one of the towns in the High Atlas affected by the strong earthquake, called in prayer – the most important of the week – to “resignation and patience” of the faithful in the face of this catastrophe and highlighted their courage “in not giving in to panic.
One week after the deadly earthquake in this and the rest of the affected towns in the High Atlas, prayers were held outdoors next to the mosques to avoid incidents inside temples damaged by the tremor. In the case of Asni, the faithful, all men of different ages, prayed next to their local mosque, visibly affected by cracks in its minaret.
