The EU commissioner submitted the application. He wants to extend the embargo on grain from Ukraine

Michael Hager, head of the office of the EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, submitted an application to extend the ban on grain imports from Ukraine – reports RMF FM.

The high official’s proposal “is based on an analysis of the market situation, taking into account low prices, the lack of possibility of storing grain in countries neighboring Ukraine and growing Ukrainian exports to other EU countries, bypassing Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary,” he points out. The ban on Ukrainian imports to Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary is valid until September 15.

Grain from Ukraine. Poland wants to extend the embargo

The Polish government demands the extension of the embargo on agricultural products from Ukraine. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Tuesday in his evening speech that after September 15, Poland will maintain a total ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. – The embargo will continue to apply. We will not allow Ukrainian grain to destabilize the Polish countryside. The interests of Polish farmers, the Polish countryside, but also millions of Polish consumers will always be in the first place for the Law and Justice government – assured the head of government.

Ukraine threatened to sue Poland and the EU to the World Trade Organization

The Ukrainian authorities have already announced that Poland and the European Union will be sued to the World Trade Organization (WTO) if any bans on the import of Ukrainian grain products are introduced after September 15. – With full respect and gratitude to Poland in the event of any bans being introduced [po 15 września – przyp. red.], Ukraine will file a lawsuit against Poland and the European Union with the World Trade Organization, announced Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka in an interview with Politico. In Kiev’s opinion, the restrictions introduced violate the EU-Ukraine free trade agreement of 2014.

Minister for European Union Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk emphasized on Wednesday in Program 3 of Polish Radio that Poland will not succumb to pressure from Kiev to lift the embargo on imports. – The Ukrainian side plays hard, sometimes it exceeds certain limits of this diplomatic game, but it does not impress us – said the deputy minister. – The Ukrainian side should also draw conclusions from this, whether it is worth straining relations at the moment – he added.
