This was remarked during his participation in the international meeting “Circular economy. Present and Future in the Region”.

“It is a very serious situation, which does not depend on the Uruguayan government or Uruguayans in general”highlighted the holder of the portfolio.

He added that in terms of trade there is a situation “brutally favorable” to encourage the purchase of products and services in Argentina and appealed to the conscience of the population so that this does not happen.

“It is a situation that is impossible to neutralize, which is why one makes an appeal to the conscience of Uruguayans that, in reality, when we choose to go shopping in Argentina We are affecting the work and activity of Uruguayans, but of course, it is very difficult”explained the minister.

He also spoke about the employment situation experienced by people who live in the border departments (provinces) and pointed out that unemployment there is in a range that goes from 10% to 14%, while the unemployment rate at the national level is 7.8%. .

“It is also true that when one measures it in terms of jobs, it is not that it has fallen, it has even grown in some, but the number of people looking for work has increased, so that is why it is reflected in an increase inthe unemployment”Mieres explained.

Finally, he said that the next summer season will be “again challenging” because the aforementioned exchange difference could affect the flow of tourists arriving from Argentina.

However, he assured that the country has “very strong natural benefits” that will make many Argentines and Uruguayans who want to vacation do so there.
