A 16-year-old teenager has died in Paris, after being seriously injured yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, September 6) after colliding his motorcycle with a police vehicle in the outskirts of the capital. This fact has forced the authorities to open an investigation into the event, which would have taken place after the driver disobeyed an order to stop.

Sources close to the investigation have indicated in statements given to the French television channel BFMTV that the teenager was driving a scooter and have added that the event took place in Elancourt, about 40 kilometers from Paris. After the accident, the young man was transferred in serious condition to the Beaujon de Clichy hospital, where he died hours later.

Police sources have stressed that the teenager “fled” after receiving an order to stop twice. “My colleagues took a walk in the area, saw him a second time, at which time he fled again. A little later he collided with a second police vehicle at a crossroads,” he said. Tony VallĂ©e, delegate of unit 78 of the Police.

The investigation, initially opened for “involuntary injuries”, will be re-evaluated as “involuntary homicide”, while a second investigation is underway for “refusal to comply with an order”. The officers driving the two vehicles involved have been arrested.according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

The death in June of Nahel, a 17-year-old teenager of North African origin, after being shot by an officer during a traffic checkpoint in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre sparked a wave of protests and riots against police violence, events that spread they have resulted in lawsuits against more than 2,000 implicated in the incidents.

After the death of the young man, the UN Office for Human Rights urged the Government of Emmanuel Macron to tackle the “serious problems of racism and discrimination in the security forces”, criticisms that were labeled as “unfounded” by the Ministry of French Foreign.
