ChatGPT Creator Receives Indonesia’s First ‘Golden Visa’: What Does It Mean?

The executive director of OpenAI, sam altmanknown for the creation of the chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPThas been the first person to receive a “golden visa” in Indonesia in an attempt to attract foreign investors.

The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration said in a statement on Monday that Altmannwho visited Indonesia last June to talk about AI, will be able to enjoy 10 years of residence and facilities when entering and leaving the country thanks to this special visa, introduced at the end of August.

The Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, said in the statement that the golden visa granted to Altmann is a special type for “people who have an international reputation and can generate profits” for Indonesian.

“We are laying out a red carpet in response to the resources they can generate for Indonesia.Silmy stressed.

The Indonesian golden visa, based on similar formulas used in countries such as the United States, Ireland, Germany and Spain, grants 5 years of residence to whoever establishes a company valued at US$ 2.5 million (2.3 million euros) and of 10 years if the company has a value of US$ 5 million (4.6 million euros).

Similarly, applicants can get 5 years of residency if they invest US$350,000 in government bonds, company shares or deposit them in a bank account, while for 10 years the amount amounts to US$700,000.

For companies seeking long-term permits for their managers, the investment amounts to US$25 million for 5-year golden visas and US$50 million for 10 years.

Other countries with golden visas are Germany, the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, New Zealand, Italy and Spain.

In the case of Spain, people who come from outside the European Union can obtain the golden visa, introduced in 2013 and which allows residence and the right to work, in exchange for investing 500,000 euros in real estate, buying 2 million euros of state bonds or create a company, among other options.
