With this award they intend to pay tribute to those people who attach importance to quality journalism.
The writer Mario Vargas Llosa has received the award from the Spanish Association of Information Media (AMI) for the defense of quality journalism for his “unwavering commitment to freedom of expression and excellence in the story”, in a ceremony held in America House (Madrid).
This award is intended to pay tribute “to those people who value every day the importance of quality journalism as a pillar of our democracy,” said the president of AMI, Fernando de Yarza.
Vargas Llosa, for his part, thanked AMI for the award and wished AMI a “long and successful” life in difficult times “to help truly independent and free journalism survive the threats posed by digital platforms of all kinds.”
“Freedom is easier in a society where there is a diverse journalism than in those in which it is subject to power,” said the writer after receiving this recognition from Fernando de Yarza. (I)
