BMW presents its new electric strategy to face Tesla

German car manufacturer bmw presented its “Neue Klasse” project this Saturday to face competition from Tesla and Asian companies in the electric vehicle sector, on the eve of the Munich motor show, in Germany.

The “Neue Klasse” (New Class, in German) project refers to a “new generation of six models of 100% electric vehicles” that the group will launch over two years from 2025, announced the CEO of bmwOliver Zipse.

The models, which range from sedans to SUVs, will initially be manufactured at the group’s new Hungarian plant and later at its factories in Munich, China and Mexico, it added.

Zipse also mentioned the development of an electronic control unit common to all these future models and to the other brands of the group. Thus, bmw expects to increase its margins and remain competitive in the sector.
