According to a statement from the airport management company, the new terminal “last generation” will be equipped with “The latest technology” as a range of interconnected biometric systems to speed passport control points and boarding.

The facility will be inaugurated at the beginning of November this year, shortly before the COP28 Climate Summit, which will take place between November 30 and December 12 in Dubai, about 140 kilometers north of Abu Dhabi. .

During its construction phase, the facility was known as the Midfield Terminal Building, which in 2021 was one of the filming locations for the latest installment of the Mission Impossible franchise starring Tom Cruise.

The airport, which will be able to operate some 79 more planes. Terminal A has an area of ​​742,000 square meters, which makes it one of the largest in the world, and will mean a considerable increase in passengers at the airport, which will be able to operate some 79 more aircraft.

The facility has also won several international design awards for its architecture, futuristic in style and designed to maximize the sustainability of the building, whose exterior is made of glass to take advantage of natural light and illuminate “with low consumption” inside.

In this sense, a photovoltaic solar system has been installed on the roof of the terminal car park, which feeds a three megawatt plant, which will mean a saving of 5,300 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The objective of Terminal A, according to the note, is “transform the local aviation ecosystem” and “strengthen Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a destination” for tourists, as well as promoting the capital of the Emirates as a global center for business and investment.
