Candidate seeks to open debate on drug legalization to reduce violence in Mexico

The wannabe Presidential candidate by the ruling party, Gerardo Fernández Noroña shared this Saturday that during his tours of Mexicothe theme of the unsafety has been the biggest complaint from the population, for which reason he proposed opening the debate to the drug legalization to dismantle the power of the cartels and reduce violence and insecurity.

While visiting the city of Monterrey, capital of the state of Nuevo León, in the north of the country, Fernández Noroña mentioned that the debate “should open with USA because he is the eldest drug user”.

“I have insisted that a discussion must be opened on the legalization of all kinds of drugs. It is not that I am saying that they must be legalized, the discussion must be opened, particularly with the Government of USA”, he pointed out in a conference.

He added that USA is the largest consumer of drugs in the world and that has given economic, political and military power to the drug trafficking “brutal”.

“We have to dismantle the economic power they have (the cartels of the drug) and with it their political and military power is dismantled. That is a very important topic.”, he stressed.

On the same subject, the politician accused that USA has acted hypocritically because it is the most important market in drug “and the money that arises from the sale of drugs is part of its capital reproduction cycle”.

“In other words, it is your engine of the economy of USA and that seems to me that it should not continue”, he asserted.

Fernández Noroña recognized the efforts made by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on the issue of security and a decrease in crime rates.

“Does that mean that the country has been pacified? No, it is evident, but it is also evident that the policy that the president has developed must be continued and in this line there is a second stage. In essence, he has complied with what he promised, I believe that it will be up to the new Government”, said Fernández Noroña and trusted that the next president for 2024-2030 will come out of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party.

He recognized that the country has not been able to pacify, but the president has done the right thing, which consists of addressing the issue of poverty so that young people “don’t jump” to the ranks of drug trafficking.

“That no one go hungry in our country, that everyone eat three times a day, that children do not work and that educational opportunities are opened to all, in such a way that the movement of young people without opportunity to organized crime is discouraged.“, held.
