The Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, advanced this Sunday that he will inform the police to investigate on Traces of cocaine found in various toilets in the British Parliament.
Hoyle stated that he hopes the law is applied “fully and effectively”, after the newspaper ‘The Sunday Times’ has revealed that eleven of twelve toilets tested in the Palace of Westminster tested positive for traces of drugs.
“Information on illicit drug use in Parliament (…) are deeply worrying and I will urgently raise them to the Metropolitan Police this week, “the Speaker of the Lower House told the BBC. Hoyle suggested that he contemplates using trained dogs to detect illegal substances within Parliament.
The places where Traces of cocaine have been found are scattered throughout the building, and include mixed baths in one of the press areas, as well as men’s and women’s toilets near Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office, and the seat of the President of the Commons.
‘The Sunday Times’ assures that “many sources have described occasional use of cocaine by a group of deputies”, and indicates that two drug “dealers” were arrested and another 13 people arrested for possessing illicit substances “in or around the parliamentary grounds” in the last year.
“Dozens of deputies, lords, councilors, researchers and employees have shared their stories about drug abuse in the halls of power in the UK on condition of anonymity “, describes the newspaper.
“There is a culture of cocaine in Parliament”says a “Westminster veteran”, who assures that “some are household names of the house, others are young and ambitious deputies and officials”. These revelations come before the government announces this week a plan to fight illegal drug use among the population.
