The Brazilian subsidiary of the grain trader Cargill said on Monday that it will ask Brazilian antitrust authorities to approve an agreement to acquire the assets of the soy Granol, which is not listed on the stock market.
In a statement, Cargill said the operation includes Granol’s grinding and biodiesel plants in the cities of AnĂ¡polis (Goias state), Porto Nacional (Tocantins state) and Cachoeira do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul state), as well as of four stores in Goias and Tocantins.
Cargill declined to disclose the value of the deal, citing confidentiality related to the antitrust approval process.
Granol did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A Cargill spokesman said the transaction shows the importance of Brazil to Cargill’s global operations and its focus on renewable energy, referring to biodiesel.
