Cuba: the summit of “selective” democracy shows the “weakness” of the United States.

The Cuban government criticized this Sunday the initiative of the president of EE.UU., Joe Biden, to convene a summit of democracy, to which Havana has not been invited.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez assured on Twitter that this “selective” call shows only the “weakness” of the US and its international isolation.

“The selective convocation of a summit that claims to be about democracy is a sign of the weakness of the US, incapable of facing the discredit and isolation of its foreign policy at the UN,” said the foreign minister.

The director general for the United States in the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Carlos de Cossio, added for his part in this same social network that the US initiative is a “sterile exercise”, which will only show “the fallacy of ‘democracy’ American ”.

“The US, where democracy is virtual, will hold a virtual summit dedicated to the issue. The whimsical guest list shows that this is a demagogic exercise. It will not solve any of the world’s major problems, nor will it clean up America’s discredited foreign policy, “he added in another message on Twitter.

Biden has invited 110 allied governments to this forum on December 9 and 10, whom he considers democracies. In the western hemisphere, it leaves out Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Regarding the last three, the US Government indicated that they suffer from “some challenges” in terms of democracy.

The event, which will also include members of civil society and the private sector, will have a session of heads of state sponsored by Biden himself, and another thematic, with the presence of governmental and non-governmental representatives.
