Seven young people, including a minor, have been arrested in Palermo (Sicily, southern Italy) accused of having sexually abused a woman. The victim, who was in a drunken state, was taken to an isolated area of the city center and raped there in turns.

Police officers have executed a warrant preventive prison issued by the Court of Palermo against three of the young people involved and another against the accused minor, processed by the Juvenile Court of the Sicilian capital.

These four defendants are joined by three other alleged accomplices who had already been arrested on August 3. All of them are being investigated for the crime of group sexual violence, as explained by the carabineri in a statement.

The investigations have shown that the group of young people sexually abused the woman, originally from Palermo, on July 7. The agents recall that operations such as this “demonstrate that by finding the strength not to remain silent and asking the police forces for help, all forms of violence against women can be adequately combated.”
