Former captain of the Russian national basketball team and Zenit player Sergei Monya spoke about the game against Kobe Bryant in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His words are quoted by the PonkraSHOW YouTube channel.

Monya is the bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympic Games as part of the Russian team. He also has gold and bronze medals at the European Championships. At the club level, Monya played for Avtodor, CSKA, Khimki and Dynamo. As part of the army team, the basketball player won the Russian championship three times, and together with the Moscow Region club he won the European Cup twice.

Monya was selected by Portland with the 23rd overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. In total, in the 2005/2006 season, he played 23 games, averaged 14.6 minutes per game on the court, scored 3.3 points, made 2.2 rebounds and gave 0.8 assists. Then the Russian spent three meetings for the Sacramento Kings, after which he returned to Russia.

Bryant died on January 26 in a personal helicopter crash. He, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, flew to a junior basketball game. The American flew in a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter, which is considered one of the safest in the world.

During his career, Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers. Together with the team, he won five NBA championship titles, the American has two Olympic gold medals.
