The Police of Michigan (United States) has been the subject of criticism due to the flagrant error that some agents committed in Lansing when they confused a 12 year old boy with a car thief.

The events occurred last Thursday in Waverly Park. The boy, named Tashawn, left his house to take out the trash. It was then that the agents they handcuffed him and put him in the police car. His father, Bernard, left his house very angry to explain to the agents that his son had not committed any crime.

“I was angry. I ran out and asked the policeman what was wrong and why was my son handcuffed“, he tells CBS. He was concerned to see that his son did not return home after throwing out the garbage.

According to the explanation of the Police, the minor he looked like the car thief they were looking for. The family is seeking a legal response to denounce the situation experienced by the minor.

“Community relations is a priority for us as a department. Our hope is that we can put this unfortunate case behind us and continue to represent the community we serve,” the department said in a statement.
