After 16 years, politics will cease to be the chancellor of Germany, which goes through a fourth wave of coronavirus, next week.
This Saturday the outgoing Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, who will leave power next week, again defended this Saturday the vaccination against the coronavirus, in the last of a series of more than 600 podcasts in which she usually addresses citizens.
“I ask you once again, insistently, take this perfidious virus seriously. The new omicron variant seems, precisely, even more contagious than the previous ones. Get vaccinated. It does not matter if it is a first dose or a booster (dose). Any vaccination is useful, ”the outgoing German Chancellor launched in a video message.
Again, he said that the fourth wave of COVID-19 in Germany is “very serious” and even “dramatic” in some regions, where intensive care units are overloaded.
“This could have been prevented. With effective and safe vaccines, we have the solution at hand ”, insisted Merkel.
The leader, who next Wednesday will pass the baton to future Chancellor Olaf Scholz (Social Democrat), also thanked “the vast majority” of citizens who “respect the rules” and “every day show off that wonderful civic sense of our country and without which no chancellor or government could do anything ”.
One of the first tasks of the next government, formed by a coalition of social democrats, greens and liberals, will be the approval of a bill on mandatory vaccination against COVID-19, starting in February or March 2022, backed by good part of the political formations.
Angela Merkel’s message was the last of more than 600 videos she has recorded during her 16 years in power. (I)
